ADAM AND EVE.

God made the sun, the moon, thestars, the earth, the sea and all thebeasts, birds, insects, plants and fishes.After that He made man, then woman.Adam was the first man, Eve the firstwoman. He planted a lovely gardenand gave it to Adam and Eveto live in. There was every kind ofluscious fruits in this garden andGod was willing they should eat allbut one; this He told them they mustnot even touch.

For a while they minded God andwere happy, but one day they bothate some of this fruit. Then Godwas very angry and sorry for whatthey had done. He drove them outof the lovely garden forever.


CAIN AND ABEL.

Adam and Eve had two sons, Cainand Abel. Cain, when he got oldenough, became a farmer, Abel ashepherd. They both brought giftsto God. Cain’s gift was fruit; Abel’sgift was the very best of his lambs.For some reason God liked Abel’sgift, but did not like Cain’s. Thismade Cain hate Abel so much thathe killed him.

When God asked Cain what had becomeof his brother he said: “I knownot: Am I my brother’s keeper?”But God, who sees everything, hadseen what Cain had done and punishedhim by making him wanderhomeless and friendless over all theearth.

THE FLOOD.

A great many years after Cainkilled Abel—over a thousand perhaps—thepeople had grown to beso very wicked that God made up hismind to destroy them by a great flood.But there was one good old man Noah,whom God loved. So He had himbuild a huge boat or ark and told himto put into it all his own family, andtwo of every kind of animal on theearth. As soon as Noah had donethis, the rain began to fall. It kept onraining for forty days and fortynights until everything was coveredby the water, even the highest mountains.Nothing was saved exceptwhat was in the ark.
