The Rambler Club on the Texas Border
The members of the Rambler Club ofKingswood, Wisconsin,—Bob Somers, DaveBrandon, Tom Clifton, Dick Travers and SamRandall,—have taken advantage of an opportunityto visit the state of Texas. Shortlyafter their arrival, Cranny Beaumont, an old-timefriend, comes on to pay them a visit.And whenever Cranny is around adventuresand excitement of some sort always seem tofollow.
The crowd is thrown a great deal in thecompany of the Texas Rangers, the “policemenof the plains,” who have many achievementsto their credit in the suppression oflawlessness along the border and elsewhere inthe Lone Star State.
Four of the lads, in the company of twotravelers, cross the famous Rio Grande delNorte and enter Mexico, which at this time isshaken by some of the most troublous eventsin all of its stormy and eventful history.
[4]In a little frontier town they meet a newspaperman and a mysterious young pianist,and through a peculiar combination of circumstancesare plunged into the midst of aseries of thrilling adventures.
What happens to the pianist and how a certainevent plays a very important part in thecareer of Cranny Beaumont is related in thisstory.
