Transcriber’s Notes

  • A small number of obvious typos have been corrected by the addition ofa missing accent. For example, “Prefecture” and “Eglise” have beenchanged to “Préfecture” and “Église”, respectively. Except for this, the spelling and punctuation of the book have not been changed.
  • There are six two-page maps in the source book. Inthis ebook the image of each of these maps has a double border and isfollowed by larger images of its left-hand and right-hand pages.
  • If you are reading the HTML version of this bookthen clicking on a two-page map will open a larger image of it.
  • In the source book some photographs are placed sideby side on opposing pages to form a panorama. In this ebook they areshown side by side in a single figure so you can see the panoramicview. Each of these photographs is also shown on its own so that somedetails that are obscure in the panorama figure can be seen moreeasily.
  • The table of contents in the book appears on thelast page of the text as it does in this ebook. Here is a link toit: Contents.
  • An appendix, not found in the book, has been addedto this ebook: it lists all the photographs and maps in the book with alink to each of them.
  • Any item in the appendix or any caption of anillustration that is enclosed in square brackets has been added by thetranscriber and does not appear in the source book.
  • Near the beginning of the chapter entitled THE WAR OF 1914–18there is a reference to

The Battle of the Marne,” part III., “The RevignyPass”.

This is another Michelin guide but it is not theone that has been posted to the Gutenberg site. If you are interested, see this book on archive.org—Battlefields of theWorld War, Vol I. Part III is on pages 215–289. See:https://archive.org/details/michelinguidetob00mill.
