PREFACE.

The object of the following few pages is to providea basis of instruction in the surgical aspect of theJewish rite of circumcision. The performance ofthis simple operation is not limited to medical men.It is therefore essential that the lay Mohel shouldpossess a scientific knowledge of the important taskhe undertakes.

The Initiation Society which controls the instructionof Mohelim has arranged a Syllabus which guaranteessuch an acquaintance with the subject. This littlebook is planned in accordance with that syllabus. Itsmain object is to bring the principles of Asepsis withinthe information of everyone acting as a Mohel, and to insist upon the urgent need of carrying theseprinciples into practice.
