T. C. NEWBY, PRINTER, BURY ST. EDMUND'S.
TO
THE QUEEN'S
MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY.
Madam,
Encouraged by the very flattering manner in which your Majestycondescended to present the 50th with the Colours which they nowcarry, as well as by a high sense of the honour conferred upon theRegiment when they were styled the "Queen's Own," I have presumed todedicate to your Majesty this feeble record of their services duringthe late War.
I am fully assured that in whatever quarter of the globe their coloursmay be displayed, it will be to gain new honours in the field, andthat, therefore, the Regiment will ever maintain that place in yourMajesty's favour, which they have had the singular good fortune toacquire.
I have the honour to be, Madam,
Your Majesty's most obedient,
and very faithful Subject,
JOHN PATTERSON,
Captain,
Late of the 50th, or Queen's Own Regiment.
Liverpool,
25th October, 1836.
