Introduction

Philip Perry and Sydney Monroe areyoung officers in the United States navy.Although they have been out of the NavalAcademy less than two years, and are stillranked as midshipmen, they have seen activeservice, as related in “A United States MidshipmanAfloat” and “A United StatesMidshipman in China.” “A United StatesMidshipman in the Philippines” tells howPhil, with Sydney for executive officer, commandeda small gunboat in expeditions againstthe insurgents. Boatswain Jack O’Neil hasbeen with the lads in many of their hazardousadventures, and the three are now on the“U. S. S. Alaska” in Japanese waters.

The story deals with a misunderstandingbetween the United States and the IslandKingdom. This complication causes a fewdays of anxiety to both nations, and gets somepeople into serious difficulties but, needless tosay, it is purely fictitious.
