Starting at lower edge with double strandof yarn, cast on 57 (59, 63, 65) sts.
ROWS 1-5: Work even in stockinette st(k 1 row, p 1 row). End with a k row.
ROW 6: K across row on wrong side forhemline. ROW 7: * K 1, with yarn in backof work, sl 1 as if to p; repeat from * tolast st, k 1. ROW 8: P across row. RepeatRows 7 & 8 for pattern. ROWS 9-50(52, 52, 54): Work even in pattern. About7¼, (7¾, 7¾, 8)″ from hemline. Pieceshould measure 14¼ (14¾, 15¾, 16¼)″across.
SHAPE RAGLAN ARMHOLE: ROWS 1 & 2:Keeping in pattern as established, bindoff 4 sts at beg of each row. ROW 3:Work even. ROWS 4-46 (49, 52, 55):Dec 1 st at beg and end of this and every3rd row 14 (15, 16, 17) times more. (Todec at beg of row: Sl first st, k or p2nd st, depending on which side of workdecs fall, psso.
