When this book was written, the writer wasunder the supposition then generally current thatthe Armenian Massacres of April, 1909, in Ciliciawere instigated by Abdul Hamid and his YildizClique. Babikian Effendi, the Armenian deputywho went to Adana from Constantinople to investigateinto the massacres, plainly reported thatall investigations had failed to trace them to AbdulHamid and his Yildiz Clique. Babikian Effendi,as was to be expected, died suddenly on his returnto Constantinople, but later on it became knownthat the massacres of April, 1909, had been planned, prepared, organized and carried into execution bythe Constitutional Government of what has beencalled “Liberal Turks” or “Young Turks.”
