LITTLE ALFRED.

BY
THE AUTHOR OF “LITTLE ELLA.”
Behold I have prepared the tenderest grass
That grows on Zion’s hill. Here feeble lambs
May find sweet nourishment, and gather strength
To climb the verdant heights, where the fair flock
On richer pasture feed.—Peep of Day.

PREFACE.

I have written this bookfor little boys. I hope theymay like it; although it doesnot contain any wonderfulstories about giants, or genii,or fairies.

I wanted to do them good,as well as to amuse them.Although I do not mentionthe name of the Saviour inevery chapter, I yet try totalk of things that will lead6their minds up to him. Iwish them to feel how goodhe has been to them, ingiving them kind parents toteach them his word, healthto enjoy the beauties of creation, and in bestowing onthem so many other mercies.

That they may love theRedeemer in their earlyyears, and at last dwell withhim in heaven, is the prayerof their friend,

The Author.
